The final cast has been set for the West End stage adaptation of Chariots of Fire, which will close at London’s Gielgud Theatre on February 2, 2013. Directed by Hampstead Theatre’s Artistic Director Edward Hall, the production transferred from the North London venue to the West End in May.
The production will retain current leads Jack Lowden as Eric Liddell and James McArdle as Harold Abrahams, as well as new cast members David Beams, Isabella Calthorpe, Zac Fox, Leigh Lothian, David McGranaghan, Aki Omoshaybi, Dylan Turner and Gabriel Vick. The new ensemble will join current cast members Gareth Charlton, Henry Davis, Lloyd Everitt, Daniel Fraser, Nickolas Grace, Matthew Pearson, Savannah Stevenson, Paul Tinto, Simon Williams, Tam Williams and Nicholas Woodeson.
Chariots of Fire tells the story of two track athletes—one Christian and one Jewish—who overcome the odds to compete in the 1924 Paris Olympics. Inspired by the extraordinary true story of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, Chariots of Fire is an inspirational tale of hope, honor and belief. Written by Colin Welland and directed by Hugh Hudson, the original 1981 film of the same name won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
