PAST PROJECTS
COMMUNITY CREATES
Community Creates was a three-year participation programme funded by Camden Council’s ‘Community Infrastructure Levy’ (CIL). Its aim was to connect with the local community and those who would not ordinarily engage with Hampstead Theatre and its work.
Concluding in 2024 Community Creates:
- Delivered 7 new projects
- Engaged with over 250 Camden residents
- Welcomed over 600 people to performances and sharings
- Worked with 26 freelance artists
Additionally, a Community Writers’ Room brought Camden residents together to write a short play for their community.
Guided by playwright Sonali Bhattacharyya nine first-time writers explored the history of one of Swiss Cottage’s most beloved buildings as the subject for their play. The Winch – A Place for Heroes, Daredevils and Lost Lovers was performed by a Community Acting Company of 20 local residents on the Main Stage at Hampstead Theatre on 31 July 2024, directed by Jennifer Davis.
